The Louisiana Civil Justice Center (LCJC) helps children and their families meet their unmet legal needs through “The Family Legal Center,” a Medical Legal Partnership with the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans. A Medical Legal Partnership is a healthcare delivery model that brings lawyers and medical professionals together to address unmet legal needs that have an adverse effect on health. At the Children’s Hospital, doctors screen patients for “health-harming legal needs” and our onsite LCJC attorney assists clients who are experiencing or at risk for experiencing legal issues that impact their health or prevent them from accessing proper care. The partnership advances both LCJC and The Children’s Hospital in their goals of improving community health through comprehensive and preventative care.
LCJC works with medical professionals to address the following legal needs:
- Landlord/Tenant issues
- Housing & Utilities
- Child Support
- Guardianship & Custody
- Medicaid Denials & Appeals
- Benefits Payments (SSI/ SSID)
- Domestic Violence
- School Related Issues
- Healthcare Costs
- Immigration
- IRS/Tax Issues
