Disaster Relief

Our disaster response team coordinates legal services and aid to community members in Louisiana, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.

In the event of a disaster, LCJC plays a key role in disaster response, coordination and the delivery of legal services. LCJC in partnership with the Louisiana State Bar Association is designed to respond quickly to justice issues in emergency situations through its legal aid hotline. LCJC’s goal is the staff the hotline as soon as possible after a disaster to quickly and effectively provide the assistance to the people of the 64 parishes of Louisiana.

Prepared with its mobile VoIP telephone system and computers, the LCJC team is able to work remotely through its statewide toll-free disaster hotline, 1-800-310-7029. Through the hotline, callers can receive answers to legal questions, be provided with information on how to get aid and receive referrals for personal attorneys. LCJC goal is to provide guidance to the community members in the event of a major disaster and is committed to being of service to those affected.

As of September 22nd, 2017, LCJC in partnership with the ABA and FEMA, is the official Disaster Legal Hotline for the US Virgin Islands & Puerto Rico citizens affected by Hurricane Irma and Hurricane Maria.
