LCJC to Assist Orleans Parish Civil District Court in Administration of Mediation Program

In May 2015, Louisiana Civil Justice Center will begin assisting the Orleans Parish Civil District Court administer the Family Mediation Program. The program is intended to provide a cooperative process in which a neutral third party meets with divorcing parents and helps identify options and alternatives to resolve disagreements regarding parenting. LCJC will be responsible for appointing those qualified to provide pro bono mediations to those who proceed “In Forma Pauperis”.  LCJC staff and attorneys participating in the LIFT Incubator and Accelerator Program are among those qualified and will provide free mediation to indigent parties.

Disaster Relief and LCJC

In the event of a disaster, Louisiana Civil Justice Center plays a key role in disaster response, coordination and the delivery of legal services. LCJC, in partnership with the Louisiana State Bar Association, is designed to respond quickly to justice issues in emergency situations through its legal hotline. LCJC’s goal is to provide access to its hotline as soon as possible after a disaster to quickly and effectively provide assistance to disaster-affected residents in the 64 parishes of Louisiana.  Prepared with its mobile VOIP telephone system and computers, the LCJC team is able to work remotely through its statewide toll-free disaster hotline, 1-800-310-7029. Through LCJCs hotline, callers can receive answers to legal questions and information on how to get aid.  LCJC’s goal is to provide guidance to the Louisiana people in the event of major disaster and is committed to being of service to those affected.

LCJC Announces Elder Law Program

Louisiana Civil Justice Center focuses on providing legal services and information to low-income, seniors, and disaster-affected persons in Louisiana.

Since 2013, LCJC has been able to provide improved services to senior residents in the Greater New Orleans community through its Elder Law Program. Over the last year, LCJC has assisted with the legal issues of over hundreds of seniors through our legal hotline and free legal clinics at senior centers in the Greater New Orleans metro area. Under the program, LCJC has hosted a series of legal clinics in which we provide direct services to address and resolve critical legal needs of low-income senior community members.  The various legal issues include estate planning, government programs, and consumer protection.
